Stainless steel is the classic look
of Berkey® water systems. These
durable, beautiful stainless icons of purity have produced safe water for
millions of people around the globe for decades. Equipped with the new
Black Berkey® purifying elements, Berkey® Stainless purifying systems
function at the same incredible rate of efficiency as the Berkey Light®
systems shown above. The wide range of available sizes makes a stainless
system ideal for many Berkey® users.
Unequalled
Effectiveness: Berkey® purifiers using the Black
Berkey® purification elements are proven to reduce pathogenic bacteria
(including E. Coli, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Giardia and
Cryptosporidium) by 99.99999%. The Berkey Light® System has been tested
with the highest pathogenic contamination levels that can be produced in a
laboratory. When contamination levels exceed one billion pathogens per
liter of water (10,000 times the density of contamination used in the
standard test protocol for bacteriological removal) they're classified as
"TNTC" (too numerous to count.) Under normal testing protocol, one
pathogenic organism is tested at a time, each with a fresh purifying
element. For this test, however, the laboratory was directed to combine
three separate pathogenic TNTC cultures. Tested under this extreme
contamination level, absolutely no pathogens were able to make it through
the purification elements. The laboratory then incubated the water, and
nothing grew. When the filtered water was viewed under an electron
microscope not even in-viable (dead) microbes were detectable - nothing
was present but pure H2O. Furthermore, contaminants reduced to
below-detectable-limits include Trihalomethanes, Radon 222, and volatile
organic compounds including Benzene, 2,4-D, Heptachlor, MTBE, Styrene,
Tetrachloroethylene and Toulene, among many others.

Sport Berkey® Water Bottle
Filters |
|
Instant open, no-touch spout!
|
Berkey Sport® Filters: 99.9%
purity water filtration to take with you everywhere! |
The Sport
Berkey ® Portable Water Filter is the ideal personal
protection traveling companion - featuring the Ionic Adsorption Micro
Filtration System. The bottle's filter removes and/or dramatically reduces
a vast array of health-threatening contaminants from questionable sources
of water, including remote lakes and streams, stagnant ponds and water
supplies.
This advanced
technology was developed, refined, and proven through
diligent, investigative research and testing performed by water
purification specialists, researchers and engineers. The media within the
filter element removes contaminants by a surface phenomenon known as
"adsorption" which results from the molecular attraction of substances to
the surface of the media. As the bottle is pressed, the source water is
forced through the filter. The quality and volume of media used, determine
the rate of adsorption. The flow rate or time of exposure through the
filter has been calculated to yield the greatest volume removal of toxic
chemicals caused by pollution from industry and agriculture. This
exclusive filter element is impregnated with proprietary "absorbing" media
that promotes ionic "absorption" of pollutants within the micro-porous
element, such as aluminum, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, and
other dangerous heavy metals. The "Tortuous Path" structure of these pores
gives it its unique characteristics. The Sport Berkey® achieves 99.9%
contaminant reduction.
The Sport
Berkey® portable water purifier offers a convenient and
portable filtration system using medical grade technology. Sturdy top loop
can be used for hanging. Rotating the loop to the side causes the sipping
tube to pop up automatically, so your hands never need to touch the fresh
water tube.
If using a source of water
that might contain extreme bacteriological or viral
contamination, it's recommended that two drops of plain chlorine or iodine
be added to each refill before filtering. This will kill minute pathogens
such as viruses. The disinfectant will then be filtered from the water
entirely, removing its odor, color and taste and leaving only purified
water.

Berkey® Shower Filter |
The
KDF Shower Filter will typically last 10,000 gallons or
one year whichever comes first. The shower filter contains KDF 55
granules, which are most effective in removing or reducing chlorine,
hydrogen sulfide, microorganisms, scale and water-soluble heavy metals
such as lead, mercury, and iron. KDF process media also kill bacteria and
inhibit the growth of bacteria, algae, and fungi. As an added benefit, KDF
media reduce lime scale, mold, and fungi in your shower. KDF process media
are completely safe so the process is not toxic and does not cause any
adverse side effects. Please note: Berkey shower filters are available for
sale to all U.S. states.
- Effective for both hot and cold water.
- Reduces up to 95% of chlorine
- Reduces chemical absorption and vapor inhalation
- Reduces 98% of water soluble heavy metals
- Contains bacteriostatic KDF as well as other media
- Reduces damage to hair and skin
- Eliminates foul tastes and odors
- Back Flush Attachment to prevent premature clogging
- Reduces lime, scale, mold and fungi in showers
- Also available with massage shower head already installed
TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
In the shower environment, chlorine can either be in liquid or gas state. At higher water temperatures in the enclosed shower stall, free-chlorine moves from the liquid to the gas state, where it vaporizes and subsequently is inhaled. The United States regulates all showerhead flow at 2.5 gallons per minute. Thus, the science behind shower filtration must take into account the unique situation in the shower, including temperature, flow rate and volume.
Our Dual Media KDF Shower Filter works on a similar principle to a Catalytic Converter in an automobile. In shower filtration free-chlorine is converted into a harmless chloride. The scientific name for this chemical reaction is known as "Reduction-Oxidation", commonly referred to as Redox. Redox reactions can be chemically complex. Simply stated, during a Redox reaction electrons are transferred between molecules, creating new elements. For instance, when free-chlorine comes in contact with the filtration media, it is changed into a benign, water-soluble chloride. This reaction changes free-chlorine to a larger chloride element, too large to evaporate or be absorbed by the skin. It is then carried harmlessly through the water supply. Hospitals, restaurants, municipal water treatment facilities, and homes rely on KDF process media to safely reduce or remove free chlorine, iron, iron oxides, heavy metals, hydrogen sulfide and bacteria from their water.
KDF process media are high-purity copper-zinc formulations used in treatment applications to reduce heavy metals, hydrogen sulfide, microorganisms, and scale. Water filtered through redox media controls microorganism growth. Treating water reduces bacteria and other microorganisms by electron transport, causing cellular damage. KDF process media also kill bacteria by direct electrochemical contact and by the flash formation hydroxyl radicals and hydrogen peroxide, both of which interfere with a microorganism's ability to function. High-purity copper-zinc redox media consistently remove 99% of free chlorine by electrochemically reducing dissolved chlorine gas to water-soluble chloride ions.
Redox media remove up to 98% of water-soluble cations (positively-charged ions) of lead, mercury, copper, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals. When filtered through KDF media, soluble lead cations are reduced to insoluble lead atoms, which are electroplated onto the surface of the media. All forms of KDF media are guaranteed for product purity, and a certified analytical sheet accompanies each manufacturing run. KDF media also meet EPA and Food and Drug Administration standards for maximum limits of zinc and copper in potable water.

World's Best Water Purifier: Black
Berkey® Replacement Elements work in Berkey & other gravity
systems.
Replacement Black Berkey® Purifier Elements
|
Black Berkey® Purifier
Elements are the world's most powerful gravity
filtering solution, certified to eliminate pathogenic bacteria to the
EPA's "7 Log" purification standard of 99.99999% reduction. Elements are
easily cleanable with a Scotch Brite® pad under running water, and each
element will purify up to 3000 gallons of water (6000 gallons per set of
two.) The Black Berkey® filter formulation has been tested by State &
EPA accredited laboratories. Click to see test results from the University of Arizona, Spectrum Labs and Analytical Services.
In addition to their phenomenal reduction of
pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites, the powerful Black Berkey®
purification elements also remove or reduce harmful or unwanted chemicals
such as herbicides and pesticides, VOCs, detergents, organic solvents,
trihalomethanes, cloudiness, silt, sediment, nitrates, nitrites, heavy
metals, foul tastes and odors. Yet they leave in the water the healthful
and beneficial minerals your body needs.
Order for replacement or

PF-2 Fluoride/Arsenic Reduction
Filter/PF-4 MTBE, Fluoride, Arsenic & Lead Reduction
Filter:
TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
FLUORIDE: Testing for fluoride was based on 20-30 ppm of the ion in the influent aqueous solution at a flow rate of no more than 3 gpm (11 lpm) per cubic foot of media. Results of < 1ppm of the fluoride ion in the effluent were typical for the media (>95% reduction). Under optimum conditions, effluent concentrations of less than 50 ppb were readily achieved (>99.75% reduction).
ARSENIC: This product uniquely targets the entire family of arsenic oxide anions as well as the arsenic cations.
REPLACEMENT:
Under normal conditions it is recommended that each set of two PF-2™ elements be replaced after 1,000 gallons (3,785 liters). The Royal Berkey® system is about 3.25 gallons (12.3 liters) therefore the PF-2™ filters should be replaced after 1,000/3.25 (3,785/12.3) or 307 refills. If the system is refilled about one time per day, the PF-2™'s should be replaced after 10 months, if the system is refilled about twice per day, the PF-2™'s should be replaced about every five months). Actual capacity is dependent on the presence of other competing contaminants in the source water. High levels of fluoride, arsenic and heavy metals may reduce the capacity and efficiency of the elements.
NOTES:
1) Do not boil this element.
2) PF-2™ elements reduce filtration flow rate by 15-20%.
3) Our original tests were done using gravity alone to purge the PF-2™ elements. Since then, we have added a step by using purging buttons which are much more efficient at removing any residual process dust from the PF-2™ media. The test does not distinguish between activated alumina (Al2O3) and Aluminum (Al). So we had to use the total count of aluminum and activated alumina in our tests.
4) The media used in the PF-2™ filter elements contains high-grade activated alumina (Al2O3), which currently is the most efficient media available for extracting fluoride from water. Activated alumina is inert. Below are the results we obtained when testing the PF-2™ elements (the water was not pre-filtered through the Black Berkey® elements). The reduction over time is due to additional residual process dust being washed free from the PF-2™ elements as the system is used. To give a scale for comparison purposes we include test results from a national brand toothpaste and water boiled in an aluminum pan.
- National brand toothpaste 52.878 ppm aluminum
- Water boiled in an aluminum pan for five minutes: 2.791 ppm aluminum
- PF2™ after conditioning (5 cycles): .178 ppm aluminum
- PF2™ after 10 Cycles: .037 ppm aluminum
- PF2™ after 20 Cycles: .029 ppm aluminum
While the above results indicate that the residual process dust adds a minute amount of activated alumina to the water, the Black Berkey® purification elements reduce aluminum from the water. We tested water that naturally contained .320ppm aluminum and filtered it through the combination of the Black Berkey® and the post conditioned PF-2™ filtration elements (5 cycles). The results showed a net reduction in aluminum contamination (Raw influent: .320ppm - Effluent after passing through the Black Berkey® and PF-2™ elements: .232ppm). Again, the standard tests cannot distinguish between aluminum (Al) and activated alumina (Al2O3), which is inert. Nevertheless, the tests showed a net reduction by the Black Berkey® element in the combination of naturally occurring aluminum plus any residual activated alumina (Al2O3)process dust from the PF-2™ elements. (Note: These do not fit onto the older-style white ceramic
elements, and they also cannot be used with the "Go Berkey" system.)
Please note: Berkey systems and replacement elements are not yet available
in California or Iowa.
